What we want from our lives

Life gives us what our heart desires and what our mind wishes for. Somewhere deep in our hearts, all of us want to live in peace and harmony, but our minds develop the seeds of conflict and tension. Our hearts stand united as a whole, it is only in our minds that conflicts of any sort develop. Our minds are the origins of all differences between us. It is only the recognition of differences that gives rise of conflicts and tensions of all sorts.

All sorts of conflicts and tensions can be amicably resolved if the seeds of peace were sown in the minds of men in the contemporary world. The defences of peace need to be built in our minds as it is in our minds that conflict is born. Conflict and war is the antithesis of peace. Peace should be given a chance to develop in our minds. Our minds need to be injected with a dose of peace and peace education in order to ensure peace in the world around us. The world around us needs peace for its development and progress. Peace is so important that it forms the topmost position in the pyramid of needs postulated by Maslow.

Peace education is of the utmost requirement today. In the present world of conflicts and tensions, there is a need to develop peace between men and for that the seeds should be sown from the very beginning. The seeds could be the provision of wholesome and good education to children so that they can develop into responsible and good citizens of the world.

Many people get stressed out in managing their investment portfolios and their finances. In some months, your investments are doing good and the next month you may be losing money. The good news is that there are ways that a person can reduce their anxiety and stresses in taking care of their finances.

Get sound advice from a good financial professional. There are many financial professionals that can give you good advice on how to manage your finances. Listen to what they have to say and decide for yourself the best route you can take in terms of your investments and finances.

Develop a budget to manage your expenses. A budget will allow you to distribute your paycheck that will pay all of your bills and will prevent you from spending your money on things that you do not need.

Plan for any emergencies that may come up. Put aside a small amount of money from your weekly paycheck into an emergency fund. The purpose of the emergency fund is to provide instant cash for sudden, unexpected events. When something happens, you will have something to fall back on.

Learn to manage your spending habits. The more you spend on things that you do not need, the less money you will have for the future. There is nothing wrong with buying things that seem nice at the time. The point is that you need to spend your money wisely.

Stay out of debt. Pay off your credit card bills and try to get rid of your debts. There also many credit counselors you can talk to that will help you develop a plan to get out of debt.

These are some of the ways to manage your anxieties and stresses of dealing with your finances. Even if you do not make a lot of money, there are ways to reduce your expenses and develop a sound budget. The key is to knowing how to manage the money you do have.

Better brain function with exercise? The evidence is clear. Not only can you get long-term benefits for your brain from exercise, but you can boost you brain power in the next ten minutes. Exercise can help your brain work more efficiently and actually make you smarter.

The thinking ability of subjects was tested in one study. After these tests, the subjects ran on a treadmill for thirty minutes. When their hearts returned to normal resting levels they took the follow-up tests. During all tests the subjects were connected to an EEG (elctroencephalogram), in order to track their brainwaves.

Researchers found that exercising had increased the speed their decision-making. It was considered a significant difference (beyond normal statistical variation). They also found that the subjects answered more accurately after the exercise than before.

Participants were between 18 and 24 years old, but researchers think the findings will hold true for other age groups as well.

One study showed that just ten minutes of moderate exercise each day can improve mood and reduce fatigue. Brain function specifically wasn't tested, but it seems likely that less fatigue means better brain power.

Best Exercise For Brain Function?

The research has focused more on the duration of exercise more than on the specific type. Aerobic exercise seems to be the common element in the studies that have shown improvements in brain function, however. It's likely that running, bicycling, swimming, dancing and any other aerobic exercise will have the same effect.

Notice that ten minutes of exercise is apparently enough to have effects on the brain. Also, while most scientists probably expected to find better brain function from long-term exercise programs, the study using treadmills showed an immediate effect. In other words, get up and run around, and you can be smarter ten minutes from now.

Some people find that walking is a great way to boost brain power. There are the aerobic benefits now being proven by recent studies, but there seems to be something more. It may be due to it's rythmic and relaxing nature that many people report their clearest and most creative thinking when walking.

We already knew that exercise was good for sleeping better, a healthier immune system, weight control, and a lower risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Now you can add brain power to that list. Why not take a walk today for better brain function?

I recently watched bits and pieces of the movie "The Invention of Lying". Although I have not seen the whole thing yet, I saw enough to get the main gist of it.

As you can probably imagine, the movie is about a guy who lives in a world where everybody tells the truth. People are brutally honest with each other and take everybody at their word. For example, when one of the actors asks Rob Lowe how he is doing, he's says, "Great, and you look like trash." In another scene, two friends get pulled over while obviously driving drunk. After a bit of back and forth, the passenger simply tells the officer, something along the lines of; look he's not drunk, you don't have to worry about it...and the officer believes him.

One of the first lies comes when the main actor sees his mother of her death bed. He "lies" to her and says that there is a beautiful world she about to enter where she will be able to see everybody she has ever loved and will have a big mansion, in an attempt to ease both of their pains.

The scene that really got my attention is when the main actor decides to tell everybody about that special place and that a "man in the sky" talks to him. This is obviously a parallel to God and the creator of the world. It is hear that we see an all too often reflection of how people think of God and our life on Earth.

He continues to state that if we are "good" we will all be rewarded a mansion in the after life. It will be the most glorious thing that we can imagine. He also tells people that they cannot do more than 3 bad things though, or else they will not get into heaven. He also tells them that the "man in the sky" is responsible for everything. Then the people start bombarding him with questions, like was he responsible for my mother's death, etc. He says yes, he is responsible for everything. The people don't respond favorably to his responses, and end up cursing this "man in the sky". After, the movie shows newspaper headlines of "NASA looks for man in the sky", "man in the sky kills 40 million in tsunami", "man in the sky lets woman live until age 104".

Two of the most common misbeliefs about God are revealed here. The first is that God is responsible for everything. This leads people to think that even if there is a God, which they are skeptical about in this first place, they would prefer not to know somebody who kills babies, gives cancer and sends natural disasters. The second is that people can only do a limited amount of bad things in their life before they are no longer allowed to enter heaven.

Many people don't understand that we live in a fallen world. God does not control everything here, however every good thing comes from him. When Adam and Eve first sinned, it allowed Satan to have control over this world. Satan does not want people to know the truth and enjoy the life that Jesus died for us to have. He will do everything he can to gain a stronghold in our lives, and if we are not aware of what he is trying to do, it becomes a very easy process for him.

We need to realize that although not everything that happens to us is good, we have opportunities to learn from each experience and use it to grow closer to God. Once we understand that we have an enemy in this world and that he comes to kill, steal and destroy, then we have to do our part to resist this, which leads to my second point.

Many people believe that they have done so much bad in their lives that God could not possibly love them anymore. They believe they have already committed their "3 bad things" and that there is no more hope. We first have to have hope in order to have faith. When Jesus died for us, he died for all of our sins...not just some. But we have to believe he is able to heal us from our sins and put our trust in Him. These are big if's and but's though. Christians around the world deal with these struggles on a daily basis. But knowing is half the battle.

If you understand that God does not send all the bad things that happen to people and that He is able to forgive us for all of our sins, you will have the foundation to live a much better life. Thanks for reading, let me know if you have any questions. God Bless.

Have you ever been hopeless, powerless, cynical, and unsuccessful at work? Having such feelings means you are experiencing burnout.

Burnout is physical or emotional exhaustion, especially because of long-term stress. It can happen when your body and mind get so much stress from working too hard, feeling unappreciated and concerned about job security, getting confused about expectation and priorities, etc.

In such conditions, you may get very sad, angry, lack of interest and motivation. That can lead you to unhappiness and depression, and in the end, it possibly threatens your health, your job, and jeopardizes your relationship with colleagues and family.

If you are experiencing burnout, what can you do to cope with it? Here are some ways:

1. Take care of your body - Eat right, sleep well, do exercise and see doctor if you feel burnout. If you can take care of your physical health, it will reduce your burnout.

2. Do your favorite things - Make a schedule for spoiling yourself in a day, week or month. Reading favorite books or doing your hobbies is like ?recharging your batteries? after going through a difficult period.

3. Talk with others - Communicate with others who will listen and understand you, but not judge you. Talking with others like that will ease your emotion and you are practicing healthy communication. Be sure to let your emotion out in healthy and productive ways.

4. Make realistic targets - Setting targets for your life will give you a real sense of purpose. Make personal targets divided into short and long terms and set up a plan to achieve the targets. To learn and reach new targets will ease your burnout.

5. Enhance your relationship - Getting closer to your partner, children, friends and other people you can count on will help restore your energy. It can ease your burnout, as you will not feel underappreciated

6. Understand your strengths and weaknesses - Knowing your strengths and weaknesses can help you learn better ways to deal with day-to-day stress. Your can avoid stress once you recognize the cause.

I've been busy lately applying the things I've learned in doing this Personal Power II adventure and I guess most of what I've written here has been for my benefit and not many others. That being said, I want to finish up and summarize the last few days just in case anyone is reading along or may run across this post somewhere and wonder about whether or not this course has a happy ending. (It does, by the way and I'm awarding myself and all those who have gone through this course, a gold trophy because it IS an accomplishment!)

In the last few days of training, Tony talks about the importance of relationships and how they can be improved. Different ways of communicating about love and emotions can make a lot of difference in how someone perceives the loving gestures coming from their significant other. For example, some people like to be spoken to in a certain way in order to feel the deepest sense of love, while others respond to gifts and things. Still others feel that being touched in a certain way conveys love on that deep level. We all tend to respond to all types of loving behavior, but learning what you and your mate enjoys the most can help create a deeper bond between you.

I've learned more about what I like and what my husband likes during this training and learned that he has been giving to me the things he would like to receive from me the most and I have given to him what I would like to receive the most. By understanding that, we can both "speak each others love language" and find that we are better able to express our love for one another.

On another day, Tony speaks about how to solve problems as they come up. The tips he offers in strategizing solutions and possible outcomes while managing one's emotional state is really excellent.

He comes up with several questions to ask during the problem solving process:
1). What is great about this problem?

2). What is not perfect yet?

3). What am I willing to do to make it the way I want it?

4). What am I willing to no longer do in order to make it the way I want it?

5). How can I enjoy the process while I do what is necessary to make it the way I want it?

Use these questions when you're stumped with a problem. They will help come to a better solution - and then let me know how it worked for you.

Finally, the last CD was about Tony's personal challenge to all of us.

He noted that there are three basic life paths"
1). The "dabbler"

2). The "stressor"

3). The MASTER

He then summarizes the key ideas that we've been learning.

1). Decide what you really want

2). Develop a plan - find someone to model.

3). Take action immediately

4). Be flexible

By doing these things and mastering yourself, you can make your life a masterpiece.

  • Develop compelling reasons to continue to manage your life.
  • Anticipate challenges that will occur in your life
  • Regularly re-evaluate your life
  • Being a "team player" will bring you great joy
  • Commit your life to something way bigger than yourself

By following these ideas, you will find the clarity and tools to run your own life. Isn't it about time you did if you haven't already?

Thank you for visiting my blog. Tell me your thoughts about your experience and don't give up until your life is as you want it.

Onward!

For the past two articles, you have been learning about some of the items that can cause reading comprehension problems. You have learned that generalizations can be confusing because they make it hard to know precisely what is being taught by the writer. You found that adverbs, and non-specific verbs contribute much of the problem. In this article, you will discover that comprehension problems can also occur by the precise opposite of generalization. Too much specialization can be also be quite problematic. Let's take a closer look at this cause of learning difficultly

Suppose you were reading a book. "Suddenly, the writer says look at the Turgis Migratorius. Isn't it beautiful?" What happens to your brain when you encounter a highly specialized word like this? Unless you are an expert on the subject related to this word, you are left clueless. By the way this word refers to a robin red breast. It is the biological nomenclature or technical name for this familiar bird. This is a very common problem in college textbooks that present words that aren't part of most vocabularies.

In college many experts use highly specialized words without explaining their meaning.

A good example is a Calculus professor. You are reading a very confusing passage, Nothing is making sense. Then the writer adds insult to injury by saying, "this is easy to see, or obvious to everyone." Yes, after studying Math for 30 years, and holding a PhD it probably would seem easy. But for the rest of us it can be quite challenging. You are experiencing a generalization from an expert.

The expert's brain has a firm grasp of the details needed to understand the technical words and ideas they are presenting. The layman's brain is often a blank sheet of paper. The confusion occurs when the expert refuses to share the necessary information needed to make their text meaningful.

The best solution to this problem that I can offer is simple. Get another book that explains the subject matter more clearly. In fact, in some very technical books, I often will get several other books. Synthesizing the various explanations found in each of these texts into a single meaning will often solve this problem for you as well. Enjoy your reading.
