Many people suffer from Excusitis; that is why many people are where they are in this moment. When you realize you have the Power within you to Change your situation in respect to hindrances, you will have a major break through in your life.
Excusitis is the epitome of the sky is falling, it might rain, there is a wild beast behind every bush; the 'what ifs' abound and the concoction of hundreds of Excuses not to do something or what they could have done are prevalent.
When people with Excusitis have selected a 'good enough' excuse they will stick with it. Then they rely on the excuse to explain to themselves and others why they are not going forward. Each time you make an excuse, the excuse becomes imbedded deeper within your unconscious mind. Thoughts - positive or negative grow stronger when fertilized with constant repetition.
When you look deeply into yours and others' behavior you will discover unsuccessful people have a mind-deadening case of this bad habit. Every failure has this bad habit in its advanced form. And nearly everyone has at least a mild case of Excusitis.
When you look closely you will discover that Excusitis explains the difference between the person who is achieving his/her goals and the person who is barely holding their own. You will also discover that the more successful the person, the less inclined he/she is to make excuses.
The person who has gone nowhere and has no plans for going anywhere has a book full of iron clad reasons (excuses) why something can not be done. People with mediocre successes are quick to defend why they are unsuccessful, why they don't, why they can't, and why they aren't - all well honed excuses.
When you hear/read about highly successful people you hear/read about how he/she accomplished his/her goals. You will not hear a highly successful executive, military officer, salesperson, professional person or leader in any field who did not have one or more major excuses to hide behind. Harry Truman could have hid behind his lack of a college education; Lyndon Johnson and Dwight Eisenhower could have ducked behind a heart attack. Abraham Lincoln could have used the excuse that he was too tall and gangly to be president. None of these successful people hid behind an excuse. All the excuses used by the mediocre person are not used by a successful person. Successful people have a 'can do,' attitude.
Like any other limiting belief, Excusitis gets worse when it is not rooted out at the core. The user of excuses steps onto an endless loop of going nowhere - 'I am not doing as well as I should.' 'I can't help it if I don't have an education.' 'I don't/didn't have time.' 'I'm too old.' 'I'm too young.' 'I have all the bad luck.' 'I tried - what more do you expect?' The list goes on and on. The moment you realize excuses are a downward spiral you can decide to 'break the habit' of Excusitis.
